Techcyte Unveils Innovative Parasitology Study at APHL Conference

Date:

Techcyte has announced a significant milestone with the acceptance of a validation study conducted by the Contra Costa County Public Health Laboratory (CCPHL) for presentation at the APHL 2026 Annual Conference. The study explores the efficacy of Techcyte’s AI-assisted ova and parasite (O&P) workflow, which combines trichrome and wet mount solutions with an automated whole slide imager from Pramana, now known as Evident. This innovative approach aims to enhance efficiency in the traditionally labor-intensive field of parasitology, where manual microscopy has been the norm.

The study, titled “Validation of the Techcyte/Pramana Platform for the Detection of Parasites in Stool Specimens in a County Public Health Laboratory,” focuses on the evaluation of 549 patient samples, each consisting of paired trichrome and wet mount slides. The results are notable, showcasing 97% accuracy, 98% sensitivity, and 97% specificity. Such findings indicate the potential for AI-assisted workflows to support existing screening processes, especially in environments facing staffing shortages and increasing specimen volumes.

Integration of the AI platform into CCPHL’s operations in January 2026 has reportedly led to reduced turnaround times, improved workflow efficiency, and decreased staff fatigue. The study compared new and archived specimen results with traditional microscopy methods, underscoring the potential of AI to support public health laboratories while maintaining established diagnostic practices. Despite the advancements, final confirmations of positive cases remain reliant on traditional light microscopy techniques.

Tyler Rippy, an Account Executive at Techcyte, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with CCPHL, highlighting the study’s role in advancing AI-assisted workflows in parasitology labs. Techcyte provides a digital parasitology platform that supports multiple staining methods within a unified workflow, reflecting its broader mission to enhance health diagnostics through artificial intelligence.

Techcyte will showcase its AI-powered digital pathology solutions for public health laboratories at the upcoming APHL 2026 Annual Conference, scheduled from May 4–7, 2026, in Baltimore. Attendees are invited to visit Booth 201 to learn more about these innovative solutions. Founded in 2013, Techcyte aims to revolutionize pathology with its unified platform, partnering with top-tier labs and solution providers to deliver advanced diagnostic tools globally.
