Trump Goes Full Force on NATO After Claiming Iran Is No Longer a Danger

Date:

President Donald Trump went full force against NATO on Tuesday after claiming that Iran was no longer a danger to the United States or its allies, following the conclusion of the joint US-Israel military campaign. He posted his frustration with the alliance on Truth Social and elaborated during Oval Office remarks, calling the allied nations’ refusal to participate a “foolish mistake.” Trump said he was “deeply disappointed” while noting that the operation had succeeded entirely without allied support.

Trump’s claim that Iran is no longer a danger represents a dramatic escalation of his rhetoric about the operation’s outcomes. He has long framed Iran’s nuclear ambitions and regional influence as among the most serious threats to American security. Tuesday’s declaration that those threats have been permanently addressed signals his belief that the campaign achieved its most fundamental objectives.

The President described the military outcomes in comprehensive terms, saying Iran’s navy, air force, radar systems, and anti-aircraft defenses had all been eliminated. He further claimed that Iranian leadership had been removed at virtually every level of command, permanently ending Tehran’s capacity for regional aggression. Trump appeared fully satisfied with the results and eager to communicate them to the world.

If these claims are accurate, the geopolitical implications for the Middle East would be transformative. A militarily and politically neutralized Iran would reshape regional alliances, proxy conflicts, and nuclear negotiations in fundamental ways. Trump presented these outcomes as a defining achievement of his presidency and of American and Israeli military power.

For NATO, the episode has created an urgent need to demonstrate the alliance’s relevance in a changing strategic environment. Allied governments must respond to Trump’s criticism in a way that addresses his concerns while preserving the alliance’s cohesion. The coming weeks will be critical.
