Quantum, AI, and Space Innovations Strengthen Singapore-Luxembourg Partnership

Date:

Singapore and Luxembourg are poised to enhance their collaboration in cutting-edge fields such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and space and satellite communications, as both nations seek to deepen their enduring partnership. Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized that the countries confront similar challenges as small states with limited domestic markets and scant natural resources. Both have leveraged their openness and international connections to evolve into significant financial and business centers serving broader regional markets.

Highlighting the robust economic ties between the two, Wong noted that Luxembourg stands as the largest European Union investor in Singapore, while Singapore ranks as Luxembourg’s second-largest investment destination within the EU bloc. He further stressed the importance of strengthening links between ASEAN and the European Union, pointing out that Singapore and Luxembourg both advocate for regional integration and share a commitment to maintaining an open, rules-based international environment.

During an official visit to Singapore from September 6 to 8, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden met with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Their discussions revolved around geopolitical developments and explored avenues for promoting stability, predictability, and adherence to the rule of law between the two countries. The visit also served to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Luxembourg, with Luxembourg inaugurating its first resident embassy in Singapore as a testament to its commitment to expanding engagement with Singapore and the broader region.

Prime Minister Frieden is expected to deliver the 48th Singapore Lecture on September 8, where he will address Europe’s role and autonomy amidst a shifting global landscape. This event underscores the ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the two nations, which are united by common interests and aspirations in the global arena.
