Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extended his congratulations to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after her government achieved a significant milestone by becoming the longest continuously serving administration in the history of the Italian Republic. Erdoğan commended Meloni on this notable achievement and expressed optimism about the continued deepening of cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Italy.
Meloni’s government has now completed 1,413 consecutive days in power, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days set by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government, which lasted from 2001 to 2005. Meloni made history in October 2022 when she assumed office as Italy’s first female prime minister. Since taking on her role, she has cultivated a strong rapport with Erdoğan, with frequent discussions on both bilateral and regional matters.
Türkiye and Italy have collaborated on various fronts, including trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. Both nations have also coordinated efforts on regional issues such as those concerning Libya and Ukraine. The commitment to strengthening their strategic and economic partnership was further solidified when Erdoğan and Meloni co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome in April 2025, where they signed several agreements to enhance collaboration.
The two leaders reaffirmed their dedication to increasing trade and mutual investment, as well as enhancing cooperation in defense and other strategic areas, during their most recent meeting. This took place on the sidelines of the NATO summit held in Ankara in July. These discussions underscore the ongoing efforts by Türkiye and Italy to bolster their relations and work together on key international issues.
