Vietnam and Switzerland are set to deepen their bilateral relations, focusing on trade, investment, and collaboration in science and technology. This development was emphasized during an event in Bern celebrating Vietnam’s National Day and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. Vietnamese National Assembly Vice President Nguyễn Thị Thanh underscored the importance Vietnam places on its relationship with Switzerland, highlighting the latter’s support during pivotal moments in Vietnamese history.
Thanh expressed Vietnam’s commitment to expanding economic ties, as well as partnerships in science, technology, and innovation. She pointed out areas where Switzerland’s expertise aligns with Vietnam’s development needs. Economically, the partnership has already seen significant growth, with trade surpassing $2 billion annually and over 100 Swiss companies investing in Vietnam across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals and precision machinery.
Swiss Senator Mauro Poggia acknowledged the significant expansion in cooperation since Vietnam’s economic renewal, noting Switzerland’s contribution to Vietnam’s economic transformation and sustainable development. This sentiment was echoed by Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Châu Mai Anh, who highlighted the upcoming establishment of a Comprehensive Partnership in 2025 and the completion of negotiations for a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association as pivotal milestones.
Both countries see further potential for collaboration in innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable development. These efforts are aimed at fostering economic growth and addressing global challenges such as climate change.
